Abstract

|
The syndrome of diffuse intravascular coagulation or DIC has been one of the most intensively studied in hematology during the past decade.
The most prevalent etiologic factors are obstetrical complications such as abruptio placentae, retained dead fetus, amnionic fluid embolism, septic abortion and pregnancy induced hypertension. The most common cause of DIC in pregnancy is placental abruption. DIC complicates this obstetrical accident in approximately 30% of cases.
Recently we have experienced a case of DIC in a patient with placental abruption and reviewed it briefly.
